Kochi, Kerala, Asin went to the Naval Public School and then to St.
Theresa’s School and College. She made her debut as a supporting actress
in Malayalam movie, Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka (2001). She then acted in Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi (2002), a Telegu film in which she portrayed the role of a Tamil girl. She then acted in Shivamani, Lakshmi Narasimha and Gharsana, in the same year; all these films turned out to be box-office hits.
Her first Tamil film was M. Kumaran Son Of Mahalakshmi. She repraised her role from Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi, portraying a Malayalee girl instead of Tamilian; the movie went on to be a blockbuster hit. She then appeared in Chakram and Ullam Ketkumae (2002) which were both very successful at the box-office.
Asin, then ventured into Bollywood with the Hindi remake of Ghajini opposite Aamir Khan. The film was a huge success and established her as a star in Bollywood. She then appeared in London Dreams opposite Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan. The film failed to do much at the box-office.

Newcomer Alia Bhatt says that her father Mahesh Bhatt and her mentor Karan Johar, who is launching her with his directorial venture "Student of The Year" (SOTY), are experts in their genre of cinema and she can't choose between the two.
"The kind of films my father has made, like 'Zakhm', 'Arth', 'Saaransh', are very intense films. Karan, as we all know, is very youth-oriented, glossy, fun. So I can't choose between my teacher and my father. I would say I love both of them," the 19-year-old said here Wednesday at a promotional event for "SOTY."
Apart from Alia, two new faces - Varun Dhwawan and model Siddharth Malhotra - will be introduced to the audiences when "Student of The Year" hits theatres Oct 19.
